Microsoft has introduced new certifications for developers using .NET 2.0 framework.
The Microsoft Certified Technical Specialist(MCTS) certifications are technology specific and test to see that an individual has the requisite, in-depth knowledge of the specified technology. They include:
- .NET 2.0 Windows applications
- .NET 2.0 Web applications
- .NET 2.0 Distributed applications
- SQL Server 2005
- BizTalk Server 2006
Microsoft anticipates adding new certifications as new technologies become available.
The second certification is the Microsoft Certified Professional Developer(MCPD). This certification is based on the development role that you play and allows you to distinguish yourself as a Web Developer, Windows Developer, or Enterprise Applications Developer.
The Microsoft Certified Application Developer (MCAD) and Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer (MCSD) are still valid certifications for .NET developers.
They are also introducing a new Microsoft Certified Architect certification. This certification is extremely involved and difficult to achieve. If you get this certification, then you really know your stuff. In order to even be considered for the program, the candidate must have 10 years industry experience and 3 years as an architect.
